Palma

The capital — a real, year-round city that happens to be by the sea.

Most visitors pass through Palma on the way to a beach and miss what's actually here: a walkable old town, one of the best cathedrals in the Mediterranean, and a food scene that doesn't shut down in October.

Base yourself here if you want city mornings and beach afternoons — Palma Bay's beaches (Can Pastilla, Ciutat Jardí) are a tram or bike ride away, and the west-coast coves are 30–40 minutes by car.

Don't miss

  • La Seu cathedral and the old town streets around it
  • Mercat de l'Olivar for local produce and lunch stalls
  • Es Baluard contemporary art museum
  • Sant Nicolau and Santa Catalina neighborhoods for eating out

Getting there

Palma airport is the island's main hub — most of Mallorca is under an hour's drive from the city.
